What this answers
Whether the address on a company’s registration is ordinary. It is the check a KYC analyst performs by hand, one company at a time, by searching the register for the address and looking at what comes back — and it is the check that gets skipped at volume, because doing it by hand does not scale to an onboarding queue.
What the score is measuring
Three things about the cohort at an address, combined into one 0–100 figure and each published as its own column beside it:
- Size — how many companies resolve to this address.
- Dissolution rate — what share of that cohort the register shows as dissolved.
- Filing conduct — what share of the cohort carries an overdue filing.
An address with four hundred companies and normal filing behaviour is a
formation agent. An address with forty companies, most of them dissolved and the
rest overdue, is something else. The score exists to sort the second kind out of
a queue; concentration_drivers says which of the three did the work on each
row, because a score with no reason attached cannot be actioned by the person
who receives the alert.
Why this is not a risk rating
Because the great majority of concentrated addresses are entirely legitimate, and a file that presented them as suspicious would be wrong about most of its own top of ranking. Accountancy practices, company formation agents, virtual office providers and large group headquarters all generate exactly the pattern this measures.
What the file offers is a defensible ordering of where to look. Treating it as an outcome rather than an input is the misuse to guard against, and it is worth being explicit with whoever consumes it downstream.
What travels with it

What it does not claim
Stated before the sample rather than after them. Everything below is a measured property of the file, not a legal hedge — if one of these is the reason the file will not work for you, that is worth knowing in the first five minutes rather than the fifth week.
- A high concentration score is not an allegation. Formation agents, accountants and serviced offices all produce large legitimate cohorts, and the great majority of high-scoring addresses in this file are exactly that. The score says an address is unusual, and unusual is where a human should look — it is not a finding.
- Addresses are resolved to a normalised form before cohorts are counted. Where a publisher's address line is malformed, a genuine cohort can be split across two resolved addresses and both will understate. `companies_at_address` is a count of what resolved, not of what exists.
- The cohort rates are rates over the cohort, not over time. A dissolution rate of 0.4 says four in ten of the companies currently resolved to this address are dissolved; it says nothing about when, and nothing about whether the address was in use then.
- Nothing here identifies who is behind a cohort. The officer and beneficial-owner registers carry personal data and are excluded from this product by construction, not by tiering.
- This edition's figures were measured by reproducing the tables the product reads from the real Silver with the build's own code, rather than from a completed production build. The population is measured; the file you receive is cut fresh at order.
